Got so many tomatoes you don't know what to do? Laura can help! Soup, salad and a perfect bloody mary blend are in your future.

Supplies

  • 8-9 heirloom tomatoes
  • 1 bunch fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • Salt
  • Mortar and pestle
  • Pepper grinder
  • Serrated knife
  • Serving plate
  • Colander

Steps

  1. Slice your tomatoes to 1/2 in thick, place them in a colander and sprinkle with a good dusting of salt. Let them sit there for about 30 minutes and allow the salt to draw out the juice.
  2. To make herb oil, add the basil and other herbs in a mortar and pestle with a pinch of salt until it's a paste. Add the paste to the olive oil and mix.
  3. Assemble tomatoes on a serving plate, drizzle with herb oil and finish with ground pepper.

  • 2-3 large ripe tomatoes
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 1 jalepeno, seeded and diced
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • Juice from 2 lemons
  • 3 scallions, diced
  • 1 cucumber, peeled and cubed
  • 2 red bell peppers, seeded and cubed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • High speed blender
  • Knife
  • Lemon juicer
  • Peeler

Steps

  1. Combine ingredients a high speed blender.
  2. Stir and serve, or refrigerate until ready to serve.

  • 2 heirloom green tomatoes
  • 3-4 tomatillos, husked and cored
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1 cucumber, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 jalapeno, seeded and diced
  • Garnishes: olives, celery, parsley, more tomatillos, etc
  • Knife
  • High speed blender
  • Garnish stick thingy
  • Bloody mary glasses
  • Microplane

Steps

  1. Blend tomatoes, tomatillos, lime juice, garlic, cucumber, jalapeno in a high-speed blender.
