Beer Battered Fish & Chips
Celebrate Oktoberfest, or any occasion, with this beer-battered fish and chips recipe!
Supplies
Chips
- 2 Potatoes (I use maris piper)
- Olive oil
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Batter
- 150 grams Plain flour
- 2 teaspoons Baking powder
- 200 milliliters German beer
- 2 Cod fillets
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Extra flour
- Sunflower oil
Steps
Chips
- Cut potatoes into chips of even size and toss in olive oil, salt & pepper. Spread evenly onto a baking tray.
- Place into a pre heated oven at 200°C for 30 minutes or until cooked through.
Batter
- Whisk the flour and baking powder together and carefully pour over German beer.
- Whisk until well combined, smooth and shiny.
- Season the fish on both sides with salt & pepper and sprinkle with a light dusting of flour. This will help the batter stick.
- Coat the fish in batter, let the excess drip off and carefully place the fish into a medium pan of oil at 190°C. I use a shallow fry but you could use a deep fat fryer. If you don't have a thermometer the oil is ready when a drop of batter dropped into a pan sizzles. Be very careful with hot oil.
- Cook for 4 minutes, 2 minutes each side if shallow frying. This could vary depending on size of fish.
- Place cooked fish onto kitchen roll to drain any excess oil.
- Serve with chips.
