Recipe For Disaster - Food Waste Hacks

Fact: One THIRD of the food the world produces is wasted. Fact: One in nine people go to bed hungry every night. Fact: You can help. We’re joining World Food Programme to reach their zero hunger target by 2030.

Supplies

  • 250ml leftover vegetable stock
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Chicken wings

Steps

  1. Pour the stock and brown sugar into a large wok or frying pan, bring to a boil and simmer, until the sauce is sticky.
  2. Mix in the chicken wings, making sure each wing is evenly coated in the sauce.

Supplies

  • 1 rind of parmesan
  • Jar of tomato sauce
  • Basil leaf

Steps

  1. Stir in a parmesan triangle into a saucepan of simmering pasta sauce. Take out after a few minutes.
  2. Spoon on top of some pasta, or mix in.

  • Peelings from 4-5 sweet potatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

Steps

  1. Throw the peelings in a bowl and toss with olive oil and salt.
  2. Fry in a wok until crispy.

  • 6 banana peels
  • Vanilla boxed cake mix, prepared according to package instructions

Steps

  1. Add banana peels to a food processor and blend until smooth.
  2. Add to a bowl of prepared vanilla cake batter.
  3. Pour into a 22cm round cake tin.
  4. Bake for about 45 minutes

Supplies

  • Broccoli stems from 1 head of broccoli
  • Carrot peel of 4 carrots
  • Spring onion ends from 6 spring onions
  • 8 eggs
  • Oil, for spraying

Steps

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180C.
  2. Combine the broccoli stems, carrot peel and spring onion ends and eggs in a food processor.
  3. Press into the holes of a muffin tin tray.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes.

Supplies

  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • Pulp from 8 oranges
  • Sugar, to taste

Steps

  1. Add the orange peel/zest, orange pulp and sugar to a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil, then simmer over a low heat.
  3. Stir constantly, until a thick paste has formed.
  4. Remove from heat and pour into some jam jars.
